My inspiration

I useD delivery gig apps-Instacart, Grubhub, Doordash, Uber Eats during the transition period between apparel design jobs. noticed a disconnect between hours input and income earned.

Delivery drivers in the US

  • Doordash reported over 2 million dashers in 2023 .

  • Grubhub reported over 65,000 drivers in 2023

  • UberEats has over 1 million drivers including rideshare and food delivery in 2023.\\

  • A study conducted on the experience of all delivery drivers noted employees of the meal delivery services are least satisfied with their pay.

Data collection Process

• Desk Research

• Surveys

• Interviews

Research goals

• Uncover existing issues with delivery app drivers utilizing multiple gig apps simultaneously.

  • Aid the initial development of an app that delivery app drivers could utilize as an aid to enhance their experience on the road.

  • Identify key features to develop in the prototyping stage. •

Data collected

OBSERVATIONS

  • Variety of apps used

  • Doordash, instacart, and Ubereats ranked the highest

Results from survey contextualizes current delivery driver’s attitude toward the delivery experience.

Problem Statement

Delivery app drivers are frustrated with the current lack of income optimization through delivering food for restaurants using gig apps. Driver’s yearn for a solution to increase income optimization that does not affect their ability to meet customer expectations.

  • End consumer for apps is frustrated.

    • Gives poor ratings based on longer wait times and cold food.

  • On DoorDash, diners can see when delivery drivers are driving in the opposite location of their delivery point.

One app stop shop

Bio:

  • New delivery driver or part time delivery driver that tends to focus more on maintaining good ratings and standing within each app over monetary gain.

The idea

Combo app that allows food delivery drivers to gig across different food delivery service apps simultaneously.

Anticipated Stakeholders

Current delivery apps: A solution could help optimize the amount of low cost orders get accepted

Current delivery drivers: could deliver more orders at a time thus earning more money

Restaurants: can get their orders delivered quicker

Competitive Analysis of Current solutions

Para

Existing app that tries to address the financial optimization of delivery driving

What it does

  • Auto declines or accepts delivery offers

  • Detects distances and tracks money across platforms

What it can’t do

  • Only works with certain apps

    • Doordash sent a cease and desist

Feed Back

“The notification that automatically pops up and enables you to go right into the next order. Keeping things as hands free as possible while driving is really nice.”

“I was confused by the dropdown "recommended" multi-select page. Is that for selecting all of one order type at once?”

“The font feels feminine. I'm not sure the demographics of the average user in these apps but could possibly consider a font that is more broad.”

“Also, could be nice to have an option to go into the actual Uber apps, etc. if you need to call Uber support or need more settings options or something.”

Next Steps

Prototype Updates

• Update based on feedback

  • Retest for confirmation

  • Update based on additional feedback

Partnership Development

Software Development

• Software engineers

  • Create an auto-detection system to help with order risk analysis.

  • Optimizing income for the delivery drivers and ensuring that the end user (the customer who ordered food) is not negatively impacted by this additional opportunity to deliver more than one order at a time.

User Testing

Focus groups consisting of various drivers using multiple apps will be vital to ensuring MultiMover meets the requirements necessary to aid drivers in income optimization. These will be paid studies that will involve on-the-job testing in order to receive the most accurate data results.

Product Refinement

The software development team will take feedback and refine the end product to fix any necessary issues identified in testing sessions.

Team Expansion

Team needs will expand to a marketing team, customer service, team and technical support team in order to recruit members to draw in revenue to continue the growth of the app and ensure shareholder and partner satisfaction.

Monetization

• Based on the business needs and potential number subscribers in the area, Multi Mover would be a subscription based app.

  • To incentivize users to “trust the process,” Multi Mover allows for a 14 day free trial for users to identify if the income optimization is worth the monthly subscription.

  • Based on the targeted subscription base, MultiMover has the goal enlist at least half of the target base to meet business needs.
